Navy Data Beach is Related to Katrina Aid

I blogged about the “new” Navy-specific data breach here. It is getting lost in all the noise about the VA situation. But here’s some updated news. Navy News has the story.

Personal information on more than 30,000 Navy Sailors and family members discovered on a civilian Web site in June provided data on personnel who were stationed in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The Chief of Naval Personnel was notified June 22 that an open Web site contained five spreadsheet files with personal information, including the name, birth date and social security numbers of several Navy members and dependents.

If you fear you may be effected, call 1-866-U-ASK-NPC (1-866-827-5672).
