IL Atty General Releases Top Ten Consumer Gripes from 2005

You’ll notice in the article that identity theft didn’t even crack the top 10. Gasoline prices was the #1 complaint which seems totally upside down to me. The article explains that the Illinois AG only received 325 complaints about ID theft in 2005. However, the FTC reports that it received over 11,000 complaints from IL residents. My conclusion is that most IL citizens don’t know about or look to the AG when complaining about ID theft.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan today announced that for the first time in the history of the Illinois Attorney General’s Top 10 Consumer Complaint list, complaints related to gasoline pricing topped the list of consumer gripes. The gasoline complaints by far topped the more traditional Top 10 categories such as home repair and automobile fraud.
